On November 14 the Felidae Team met 15 Wells Fargo staff members in the field to place a series of trail cameras in an area heavily trafficked by pumas and other wildlife. The volunteers were trained in detecting the presence of pumas by identifying scratch sites and paw prints and in mounting cameras placed to capture multiple images.
Together we prepared the equipment, placed stakes and mounted five cameras in a remote area of San Mateo accessible only with landowner permission. It was a glorious day and the volunteer team was enthusiastic and hard working. A fun outing for all involved.

Recently my team and I joined the Felidae Conservation Fund on one of their amazing projects in the beautiful Peninsula mountains. Our assignment was to place cameras on trails that are considered popular areas for felidae like mountain lions and bobcats. We hiked on an exclusive trail that rarely gets visited by humans, witnessed amazing views through the forest and onto the pacific coast, enjoyed a small off-road adventure on a dirt road, and most importantly learned so much about big cats, the area, and what we can do to all live comfortably as neighbors on this planet.
The experience we had with the Felidae Conservation Fund was easily one of the most fun volunteer events that we’ve participated in as a team. It was great to bond with each other in a scenic outdoors environment while everyone stepped out of their element for this great cause.
Felidae Conservation Fund representative, Catherine Gallo and her team made it simple to organize our event by responding in a timely manner and accommodating our group size and schedule. My team is looking forward to the next volunteer event we have with this organization and we highly recommend anyone to participate and join this cause.
